Monthly Recap: February ‘20

Posted February 29, 2020 by Amber in Monthly Recap / 544 Comments

Monthly Recap is a bit of a self-explanatory feature where I recap my life, share blog posts you may have missed, give an overall count of my reading progress and more. To know what books I’ve read, shows I’ve watched and music I’ve listened to, you can check out my Entertainment Recap feature.

Monthly Recap February 20

It has been a huge bookish month for me regarding book sales, book signings, review books, signed books, book carts and recently ordered…book beaus.  It’s all books books books.

If you take away all of the bookish stuff, well, I suppose it’s just another regular month. Oh, I did start a new Sunday School class where we meet a coffee shop. I love this because of the obvious…. coffee. It’s been nice so far.

Other than that, I missed two panels at the library last Saturday which I am so upset about. I have learned to put events in my phone not just in a notebook I never end up looking at again.

Life lessons for you, put important events in your phone calendar. Otherwise you’ll be really sad like me when you miss stuff. Here is a little collage I quickly put together!

Highlights:

* I went to an author event for Adib Khorram at the library and bought signed books.

* I received my first physical ARC of the year from Mia Siegert. I am so excited to read Somebody Told Me and it’s signed!

* My sister bought me this lovely rose gold book cart which you cannot see super well in the picture there but I promise it’s gorgeous and full of books.

* I won a giveaway for a signed copy of Yes No Maybe So. Let it be known that I have ARCs of Becky Albertalli AND Aisha Saeed debuts! Winning this giveaway on Twitter felt like fate. It also may have helped that not too many people entered.

Instead of listing all the books here that I’ve read over this past month, I’m only going to touch on a few things. This is half because you can check out my (soon to be posted) Entertainment Recap instead and half because when you read over 30 books, it gets a bit tiring to post them all here. Especially when you’re still working on your post at nearly midnight. the day of.

I’ll still be listing number of the books I’ve read, the books I’ve received and throwing in how my Goodreads Challenge is going and how my reading habits are changing.

So, this happened:

# of Books Read: 38

The last week in books:

I only listened to Emma out of the Works Of Jane Austen but I’m counting it as a whole book anyway because this is my blog which means. . .

The 100

Which brought me to being halfway completed with my Goodreads Goal…in February.

Goodreads February Progress

Have I said how much I love Audiobooks? I have, haven’t I? Let me say it again, I love audiobooks!!

~My Changing Reading Habits~

I have begun listening to a lot of non-fiction. Especially when they’re pretty short and I can squeeze one in between Young Adult Books. I like essays a lot like the ones in Shrill by Lindy West and Sex Object by Jessica Valenti, as well as We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie and Between The World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates. They were all really good and insightful. I am getting into memoir-esque books like Hunger by Roxane Gay and Brown Girl Dreaming by Jaqueline Woodson.

# of Books Started: 2

I’m about 10% into What Kind of Girl and 40% into When You Were Everything. I’m such a slow reader. Who knows though? Maybe I’ll speed-read them on this final day of February and bring that monthly total up to 40. I can try anyway!

I know, I am obsessed.

Speaking of obsessed…

# of Books Bought: 40? (Maybe miscounted?)

Is it really that bad if the great majority of the books are digital?

Physical: 8

I kicked off the month by going to a book sale at the library where I purchased four books for $1.

Four Babysitter’s Club Little Sister books to be exact. I like reading these because they being a sense of comfort and they’re short.

I mentioned I went to a signing where I bought two signed paperback copies of Darius The Great Is Not Okay. I’ll be doing a giveaway in March for a copy!

And on this final day of February, I purchased two more books because I don’t have any self control and because they were half off therefore only a dollar.

Audiobooks: 7

I spent my January and February credits on The Gravity Of Us and Red Hood.

The Accidental Bad Girl was super cheap. With The Fire On High was a daily deal. Finally, Scythe, Shadow and Bone, and Six of Crows were all less on sale as part of Audible’s Series sale.

Kindle Books: 25

Freebie: 1

I loved their first poetry book, DROPKICKromance

# of Books Gifted/Won: 2

*I won Yes No Maybe so from Genissa.

*See All The Stars was given to me by Shannon.

# of Books For Review: 12

It has been the best month for receiving books. First of all, I received a gorgeous signed ARC of Somebody Told Me from Mia Siegert. I am so excited to read it.

Next I received several eARCs via Netgalley from the following publishers:

Disney Book Group, Simon and Schuster Children’s Publishing, ABRAMS Kids, Random House Children’s, North Star Editions and Algonquin Young Readers! I want to thank them all so, so much.

I cannot wait to read The Voting Booth, 10 Things, Today Tonight Tomorrow and We Are The Wildcats. It was exciting to receive Tigers, Not Daughters because I featured the gorgeous cover for it last month. I’ll be on the blog tour next month with a review!

TV and Movie Purchases (1)

via Itunes sale

I only vaguely remember watching When Harry Met Sally ten years ago. The other three are all new to me. I’m really excited for Sleepless In Seattle and Thelma & Louise.  Dear White People has Tessa Thompson in it too! I loved her in… Veronica Mars, of course.
