Sequels In 2020 That I Need To Read Immediately

Sequels In 2020 That I Need To Read Immediately

Hi all. I love a good sequel I’ve discovered. I thought this would be a fun post to do because of how many series I started last year and this year so far. Some of these sequels I have read but nonetheless, I made this list months ago. Here we go with a bookish list of sequels coming out (hopefully) this year. *Graphic to come* ~The Read~ One of these was good. Just one. The other two were…adequate. Please don’t make me get into them. We Unleash The Merciless Storm (We Set The Dark On Fire #2) by Tehlor Kay Mejia Goodreads Summary: In this nail-biting sequel to Tehlor Kay Mejia’s critically acclaimed fantasy novel We Set the Dark on Fire, La Voz operative Carmen is forced to choose between the girl she loves and the success of the rebellion she’s devoted her life to. Perfect for fans of The Handmaid’s Tale and Anna-Marie McLemore. Being a part of the resistance group La Voz is an act of devotion and desperation. On the other side of Medio’s border wall, the oppressed class fights for freedom and liberty, sacrificing what little they have to become defenders of the cause. Carmen Santos […]

Black YA Authors You Need To Read This Year

Black YA Authors You Need To Read This Year

In honor of Black History Month and wanting to share more marginalized voices, I’m making a list of black authors in the YA world that should be read more. I’m only discussing authors and books I’ve specifically read. Unless they have a heavily anticipated book coming out and that would be most of them!  Here we go: I would be surprised if someone who read books regularly didn’t know who Angie Thomas was. I adored both of Angie’s books so much. They’re so real and current and amazing. I’m so glad I was given the chance to meet her at ALA in 2017. She was delightful. I cannot wait to see what she writes next. My Review For On The Come Up Other Books Released or Forthcoming: Until You Came Back (TBA), Stories in Black Enough, Hungry Hearts and Battle of The Bands Jay Coles will forever have my money. His debut, Tyler Johnson Was Here was so important and it dealt with the feeling of loss and the feeling of not knowing so genuinely Other Books Forthcoming: A Crown So Cursed (TBA) I love so much about the Nightmare-Verse series. Alice is a black, bisexual magical girl who happens […]

Fifteen YA Romances I Want To Read In 2020

Fifteen YA Romances I Want To Read In 2020

I am doing a romance series of posts for the next two weeks because why not? Today I’m talking about thirteen Young Adult romances that sound really intriguing to me. A few of these are repeats from my two Anticipated Book Lists but that was inevitable. ~One~ Every Other Weekend by Abigail Johnson The Reason Why Teens bonding over their family issues. I’m very much into that. ~Two~ Yes No Maybe So by Becky Albertalli & Aisha Saeed The Reason Why First of all, that plot sounds amazing and it’s so well needed given the election year. Secondly, the authors! ~Three~ Together We Caught Fire by Eva V. Gibson The Reason Why I love a story dealing with hard issues. ~Four~ The Gravity Of Us by Phil Stamper The Reason Why Space, first love, I couldn’t ask for more. I’m already reading it today and it’s amazing. ~Five~ If You Only Knew by Prerna Pickett The Reason Why We don’t read about many teens being released from jail. I’m waiting for the secrets to come pouring out. ~Six~ Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally The Reason Why I’ve never read a Miranda Kenneally book but it is […]

58 Adult Fiction Books I Can’t Wait To Read

Hey everyone. I am really enjoying making these bookish lists. I want to branch out my reading this year. After reading some more popular Adult fiction books last year, I want to delve deeper into that and I think 2020 might be the year for it. There’s a nice mix of thrillers and rom-coms and books about family and friends. I’m excited to discover some new favorites. 29 More Contemporary Books I Can’t Wait For (Part 2)

29 More Contemporary Books I Can’t Wait For (Part 2)

Hi, so I clearly I wasn’t lying when I said there would be more parts to Books I’m Looking Forward To. Today I’m sharing 29 more books that I can’t believe I almost forgot about. This is Contemporary because I have other lists up my sleeves I’m creating. ~One~ What I Want You To See by Catherine Linka Releases: February 4th, 2020 from Disney-Hyperion Goodreads Summary: Winning a scholarship to California’s most prestigious art school seems like a fairy tale ending to Sabine Reye’s awful senior year. After losing both her mother and her home, Sabine longs for a place where she belongs. But the cutthroat world of visual arts is nothing like what Sabine had imagined. Colin Krell, the renowned faculty member whom she had hoped would mentor her, seems to take merciless delight in tearing down her best work—and warns her that she’ll lose the merit-based award if she doesn’t improve. Desperate and humiliated, Sabine doesn’t know where to turn. Then she meets Adam, a grad student who understands better than anyone the pressures of art school. He even helps Sabine get insight on Krell by showing her the modern master’s work in progress, a portrait that’s sold […]

Top Fifteen 2019 Books I Read Last Year

Top Fifteen 2019 Books I Read Last Year

First of all, Happy New Year! It feels like 2019 took forever but that’s basically every year. I’m both excited by the thought of a new year and decade and nervous. I had the most amazing book reading year ever. Being able to listen to audiobooks at work is my favorite thing since I started. I go through them so much. I discovered I really do like fantasy books and fairytale retellings/folklore books too. I always though they were too complicated and I like the Contemporary Genre because of “Realness” but fantasy is so good. Interestingly enough, as much as I enjoyed them, this list is very Contemporaryish. When I began compiling this list, it was 25 books long. I had read 38 books that were released in 2019. Shannon told me that it probably wasn’t supposed to work that way, thus came my culling! On to my favorite books of 2019! ~One~ Full Disclosure by Camryn Garrett What can I even say about this book? It blew away all of my expectations. Normally I don’t even have these list in a specific order, but this one is. At least somewhat. Full Disclosure is my book of the year. It’s […]

A New Feature Debut: Bookish Lists

A New Feature Debut: Bookish Lists

In honor of, The Bold Type officially premiering tonight, I decided to finally launch this long-thought-of feature. I am creating a bookish list type of feature where I can showcase books with similar storylines or aspects. I love bookish lists because they’re great when you’re just in the mood to read about topics and see how other authors handle it. Today’s Bookish List is going to be about fashion because The Bold Type is about three women who are friends and begin to work for the magazine, Scarlet. Scarlet is a women’s magazine. I loved everything about the preview of the pilot when I watched it last month so this list was a total given. To be more specific, this list will be about teens interning for fashion or women magazines. I’ll kick off this list with the two series that gave me an itch to read books about fashion: The Flirt Series is a favorite because it’s about several girls who are are interning in different areas at one magazine. I’m partial towards Close Up and Personal and Spin City because the girls are involved in photography and music. Close Up and Personal features a girl from Argentina and […]
